Unicaf University Hosts SPSS & Data Analysis Workshop
Unicaf University successfully hosted a SPSS & Data Analysis Workshop on 13th March 2026 at its Lilongwe Campus Amphitheatre, in commemoration of the International Day of Data. The workshop aimed to promote data literacy, digital skills, and evidence-based decision-making among students, researchers, and members of the public.
The interactive workshop provided participants with practical competencies in statistical data analysis using SPSS, covering essential areas such as data entry, data cleaning, descriptive statistics, inferential analysis, and interpretation of results. Led by data analysis expert Mr McDonald Chabwera, with support from Mr Millias Ntchima, the session combined theoretical foundations with hands-on exercises using real-world datasets. This approach enabled participants to apply statistical concepts in practical research and professional contexts.
Structured into a series of presentations and demonstrations, the workshop included:
- An overview of SPSS concepts and data management techniques;
- Step-by-step guidance on data entry, cleaning, and descriptive analysis;
- Advanced inferential statistics, including cross-tabulation, ANOVA, chi-square tests, and correlation analysis;
- An interactive Q&A session addressing real-life research challenges and applications.
The workshop drew strong participation from a diverse audience, reflecting the growing demand for data literacy and analytical skills. In his closing remarks, the moderator encouraged attendees to leverage the newly acquired skills to improve research quality and promote data-driven decision-making. The session also highlighted the potential for future online workshops to broaden access and engagement.
This initiative reinforces Unicaf University’s commitment to strengthening research capacity, enhancing digital literacy, and fostering experiential learning. By equipping learners with practical data analysis skills, Unicaf University continues to position itself as a hub for research excellence and professional development within the community.
