Unicaf University Joins World Tourism Day Celebration in Malawi

Unicaf University, Malawi joined tourism, hospitality, education, government and private-sector stakeholders at the World Tourism Day Celebration held on 25 September at Lingadzi Inn in Lilongwe, under the theme “Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism.”

Hosted by the Malawi Institute of Tourism in collaboration with Unicaf University, the event provided a platform for industry stakeholders, academics, professionals and students to explore how digital technologies and Artificial Intelligence are reshaping the tourism sector and creating new opportunities for its future.

As part of its commitment to meaningful student engagement and industry exposure, Unicaf University brought students to the celebration, giving them the opportunity to connect with fellow students, tourism professionals and other sector stakeholders while gaining first-hand insight into current developments within the industry.

The University also contributed directly to the day’s discussions through a panel exploring the implications of this year’s World Tourism Day theme. Mrs Kamanga, Programme Leader at Unicaf University, represented the academic perspective, while Mr Musenga Mulungu represented the student voice. Their participation brought together academic and student perspectives on the growing role of digital technology and Artificial Intelligence in transforming tourism.

The discussion was particularly relevant to Unicaf University’s academic offerings, including its Hospitality Management programmes, providing an opportunity to connect classroom learning with the evolving realities of the tourism and hospitality industry.

Through its participation, Unicaf University demonstrated its ongoing engagement with the tourism and hospitality sector and its commitment to preparing students for a rapidly changing professional environment. Events such as World Tourism Day provide students with valuable opportunities to broaden their understanding beyond the classroom, engage with industry professionals and consider how emerging technologies may influence their future careers.

The celebration also highlighted the increasing importance of collaboration between educational institutions and industry as tourism continues to evolve in response to technological innovation. By bringing academic expertise and student perspectives into the conversation, Unicaf University contributed to a broader dialogue on how education can support the development of a digitally enabled and future-ready tourism sector.

For Unicaf University, meaningful education extends beyond academic study. Through opportunities for industry engagement, professional interaction and exposure to emerging trends, students can gain a broader understanding of the sectors in which they will build their careers.
